Happy Halloween – Trick or Treat?

Posted In: Holidays by Gregor Anton

Have you wondered where the phrase Trick-or-Treat comes from? It’s a great phrase to play on for marketing yoru business, but where does it originate?

The custom goes back to when the poor would go door to door receiving food for prayer.  Even Shakespeare mentions the practice in his comedy “The Two Gentlemen of Verong”.   It evolved from there to children getting treats for performing acts of sorts.

Happy Halloween!

According to the Associated Press, the US economy grew at a 3.5 per cent pace in the third quarter, the best showing in two years, fuelled by government supported spending on cars and homes.

It was the strongest signal yet the economy entered a new phase of recovery and that the worst recession since the 1930′s has ended.

Also, the government says the number of people claiming jobless benefits for the first time dropped slightly last week, evidence that the labour market remains weak even as the economy is recovering.  The Labour Department said that its tally of newly laid-off workers seeking unemployment insurance fell by 1,000 last week.

It’s hard to believe that the internet is 40 years old already. Even harder to believe is that I’m younger than the internet.  I started computing when I was 6 years old and writing basic code.   While gaming was my first introduction to computers with Pong, PacMan, and DonkeyKong among of my favorites, it was in my teens that I was exposed to bulletin board systems (BBS) which some may consider a forerunner of what we now know as the internet.

The Holy Grail of Marketing

Posted In: Marketing by Gregor Anton

The quest for the Holy Grail of Marketing is that of most small business owners and many marketers.  It’s not unlike the holy grail of day-trading.  The constant hunt for the sure thing, the guaranteed success blue print.  Well I have good news and bad news…

The bad news is that there isn’t one miracle solution.  One quick fix pill that will put zeros on the end of your bank account balance.  If it really were that easy, everyone would be doing it.   We’d all be entrepreneurs and successful business owners.

Thanks to Google‘s Local Business Center, my phone and the phone of my clients has been ringing.  In fact I just recently closed a deal thanks to my Internet Marketing Efforts, aka Search Engine Optimization.

Simply put, SEO (Search Engine Optimization) when done right will put you on the first page of Google. That’s where you want to be.  Lets face it, when you google Vancouver Marketing Consultant, I want to be on the first page to get the most exposure AND the most responses.
